Evan Bialosuknia Makes History as School's 1st Trans Homecoming Queen

“It made me feel like I actually belonged.”

For the first time in Olympia High School history, the school elected an out trans student as its homecoming queen.

"Made history," Evan Bialosuknia wrote to Instagram earlier this week. Alongside the caption, the 17-year-old posted a series of her with her sash titling her as part of the "Homecoming Court 2021," as well as her crown for being selected as queen, and beside the homecoming king. 

"Looking back, it doesn't even feel that's me," the teenager told WESH2 of older photos. She began her transition earlier this year at the Orlando school. “I played football for like six to eight years, and I remember during practices I would stare at the cheerleaders because I wanted to be with them.”

She is one in a crush of LGBTQ+ students that's seen support by their student body during homecoming over the past few years. In 2019, a gender-nonconforming high school senior was crowned queen at Clovis East High School. That same year, a photo of a teen at White Station High School went viral after being named "Homecoming Royalty." That school had instituted gender-neutral titles the year prior. 

“It made me feel like I actually belonged,” Bialosuknia said of her win.
